Every day around our State, ordinary Tasmanians are making extraordinary contributions across a diverse range of fields, strengthening their communities and making a lasting impact.
The Australian Honours and Awards system provides an opportunity to recognise, celebrate and thank those who make a difference, those who achieve their best, and those who serve others.
Today Her Excellency the Honourable Caroline Wells, Governor of Tasmania, was pleased to present insignia to Tasmanians recognised in the in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours List at two Investiture Ceremonies at Government House. Some recipients named in the 2026 Australia Day and Midwinter's Day Honours Lists were also honoured.
During the ceremonies, one Tasmanian was invested as an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) and nine were invested as Members of the Order (AM). Two recipients were honoured with the Australian Police Medal (APM), three with the Ambulance Service Medal (ASM), 13 with the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) and one with an Australian Antarctic Medal (AAM).
Speaking to guests, Her Excellency congratulated recipients and encouraged everyone to consider nominating a worthy Tasmanian for an award.
"Honours and awards are a visible way for us to acknowledge and show our appreciation for people in our community who are exceptional," Her Excellency said.
"Since the introduction of the Australian Honours system in 1975, any person has been able to nominate someone for an award who has demonstrated outstanding service or exceptional commitment.
"Changes made last year to streamline the process have made it easier than ever to nominate someone online, so I encourage everyone to think about doing just that.
"As I have been meeting people since I began my term, it has been obvious that there are so many individuals who are working tirelessly in the quiet pursuit of the extraordinary in our community who would be worthy recipients.
"I extend my warmest congratulations and the thanks of the Tasmanian community to you all for the work you have done and the impact you have made. You are all truly remarkable."
