Last week Her Excellency the Honourable Caroline Wells, Governor of Tasmania, was delighted to join the Tasmania Jewels and some sports stars of tomorrow for the launch of the club’s ‘you can be what you can see’ campaign.

The Jewels will take to the court for their maiden WNBL season later this year, marking the return of Tasmanian representation to Australia’s premier women’s basketball competition for the first time in 30 years.

‘You can be what you can see’ puts a positive spin on a common phrase to send an aspirational message to young Tasmanians, encouraging them to be inspired by the Jewels to believe in achieving their own dreams.

The campaign also showcases the power of sport to bring people together as well as the many health and wellbeing benefits it can provide.

A highlight of Friday’s event was Her Excellency's presentation of jerseys to the three young mini-Jewels who feature in the campaign: Akura Deng (7), Ivy Adams (8) and Teneisha Richey (12).

The Tasmania Jewels will make their WNBL debut when the season gets underway in October 2026.
