Nineteen new constables are now on the beat around the State, following last week’s graduation ceremony for Tasmania Police Recruit Training Course 1 of 2026.
The ceremony, which took place at the Tasmania Police Academy in Rokeby last Friday, marked the culmination of an intensive 28-week course, comprising academic, physical, operational and practical training.
Her Excellency the Honourable Caroline Wells, Governor of Tasmania, was honoured to serve as Reviewing Officer at the ceremony, inspecting the parade of graduates, presenting awards and delivering an address.
Speaking to the new constables, Her Excellency congratulated them on their achievement and acknowledged the support of their families and friends throughout their training and as they set out in their new careers.
Her Excellency discussed her own career experiences, noting that she had seen the importance of supporting people experiencing illness, vulnerability, uncertainty and distress.
“I also learned that however important your professional knowledge is, it must always be accompanied by empathy, kindness, genuine listening and respect. These qualities will be just as important in your work as police officers,” Her Excellency said.
“Never underestimate the difference that you can make.
“Thank you for choosing a career of service.”
