Yesterday Her Excellency the Honourable Caroline Wells, Governor of Tasmania, and Dr Rob Walters RFD were pleased to welcome participants in the 2026 Tasmanian Youth Parliament to Government House.
Young people from around the State have gathered in Hobart this week to raise their voices on the issues most important to them, as part of the annual event organised by a taskforce of dedicated volunteers with the support of YMCA.
Students in Grades 10-12 take part in the residential camp each year, developing their skills in advocacy, their understanding of democratic processes and their knowledge of current social, political and economic issues.
Participants have taken part in educational workshops, speakers’ panels and problem-solving policy exercises, and also debated bills which the students themselves have drafted.
As part of their program, yesterday the students visited Government House, enjoying morning tea with Her Excellency and learning about the role she plays in Tasmania’s parliamentary system.
Her Excellency was pleased to meet young people from all parts of Tasmania, congratulating them on putting themselves forward to take part in the important initiative and wishing them well for their future endeavours.
