From its headquarters on Tasmania’s East Coast, climate solutions company Sea Forest is attracting international attention as it works to make a positive impact on the planet through manufacturing its innovative product SeaFeed.

The livestock feed supplement, made from asparagopsis seaweed, has been shown to reduce methane emissions in cattle, sheep and other ruminant livestock by up to 80 per cent.

Livestock production is a significant contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions, with methane having a global warming potential approximately 28 times greater than CO2.

Yesterday Her Excellency the Honourable Caroline Wells, Governor of Tasmania, and Dr Rob Walters RFD were pleased to join founder and 2025 Tasmanian Australian of the Year Sam Elsom and his team for a tour of Sea Forest’s operations.

They began the day with a tour of the laboratory at Triabunna, before heading to Swansea where they toured facilities and operations and learned about land-based seaweed cultivation.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to not only meet staff and learn about the science behind SeaFeed’s development, but also to hear more about Sea Forest’s plans for the future.
