As part of her commitment to connect with communities across our State, yesterday Her Excellency the Honourable Caroline Wells, Governor of Tasmania, was delighted to spend a busy afternoon in the City of Clarence.
The visit was a chance to find out about businesses and attractions driving economic impact and to meet with organisations dedicated to improving the lives of their fellow residents, showcasing the importance of connection to community, place and each other.
Accompanied by Dr Rob Walters RFD, Her Excellency began the afternoon hearing about the many interesting things happening around Clarence during a lunch at the Council Chambers.
They then headed to Rosny Farm to visit the new Youth Clubhouse, see exhibitions being installed at The Schoolhouse gallery, hear about plans to expand the arts and cultural precinct and view the work underway to rewild the Rosny Parklands.
Her Excellency and Dr Walters then travelled to Risdon Vale, where they spent time at the Risdon Vale Neighbourhood Centre, having a chat at the community café, visiting the community garden and finding out about the many valuable programs it offers.
Following this, they went next door to the Risdon Vale Hall where they met members of the Military Brotherhood Military Motorcycle Club Tasmania South and learned about how they are supporting veterans and their families.
Her Excellency and Dr Walters then headed to Seven Mile Beach, where they toured the new 7 Mile Beach Golf Course which has added to Tasmania’s outstanding reputation for golf tourism.
They ended their visit with a civic reception at Killara Distillery in Richmond, which is continuing the State’s tradition of producing award-winning whisky and spirits.
Speaking to guests at the reception, Her Excellency said she and Dr Walters had enjoyed meeting many members of the community throughout the day, and thanked Mayor Brendan Blomeley, City of Clarence staff and everyone who had hosted them during their visit.
"Community is about people, and throughout our visit to Clarence today, we have seen the many ways people are supporting one another, creating opportunities for connection, and helping others feel that they belong," Her Excellency said.
"It has been wonderful to see first-hand the care, commitment and community spirit that exists right across Clarence, and to hear the stories behind the people and organisations that make this place so special."
