Her Excellency the Honourable Caroline Wells, Governor of Tasmania, has this week spent time with Tasmania Police and service providers as she visited two facilities which work to connect Tasmanians with the important services they need.

Accompanied by Dr Rob Walters RFD, yesterday Her Excellency spent time at Arch in Hobart.

Located in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie, Arch centres provide free information and support for children, young people and adults from all communities and backgrounds affected by sexual harm.

Her Excellency and Dr Walters toured the Hobart centre and spoke with service providers to learn more about the coordinated, collaborative, trauma-informed and victim-centred support they provide.

Service providers located at Arch include counsellors from the Sexual Assault Support Service and Laurel House and specialist investigators from Tasmania Police.

Family violence workers from the Family Violence Counselling and Support Service, child safety and wellbeing workers from the Strong Families Safe Kids Advice and Referral Line and child safety officers from the Child Safety Service are also available.

Her Excellency and Dr Walters then visited Tasmania Police Radio Dispatch Services in Hobart, which connects members of the community right across the State with police and emergency services.

There, they met with staff who process an average of about 1,200 calls each day, finding out about the range of tasks they undertake as they observed emergency dispatch operations in progress.

More information about Arch services may be found at the Arch website.
