Requests for Functions at Government House
Government House is the home of the Governor and Professor Chalmers.
The Governor and Professor Chalmers are pleased to consider requests to host receptions at Government House to mark special occasions of significance for not-for-profit groups or for delegates attending conferences in the State. These are generally scheduled for an hour on weekday early evenings.
Educational visits by school and community groups may also be arranged. These are generally scheduled for an hour on weekday mornings.
Requests for Her Excellency and Professor Chalmers to host a function should specify:
- the nature of the occasion and details of the organisation requesting the event;
- the desired date and time;
- the number of people who are expected to attend; and
- be addressed to:

The initial correspondence should come directly from the organisation or individuals making the request, signed by an office bearer of the organisation.
Requests should not come from a commercial conference or event organiser.
A lead time of at least 8 weeks will enable the development of well-considered guest lists, the despatch of invitations and time for responses. For most events, guests will be required to book an online ticket to attend via the Government House Tasmania website.
Guests will need to present their barcoded ticket, either as a paper copy or on a portable device such as a mobile phone or tablet, for scanning prior to entry.
If the request is agreed to, Government House will be responsible for the provision of all hospitality.
Please note that Government House is not a ‘venue for hire’ for use by outside organisations or caterers.
