Join us at Government House for the 2025 Winter Series of Horticultural Lectures.
This year’s programme will once again bring together keen gardeners and professional horticulturalists to be inspired by presenters delving into a range of fascinating topics.
Our first lecture on Friday 6 June will see Mark Fountain discussing his garden ‘Among Tall Trees’ at Mount Rumney and talking about gardening with nature and the influences on the thinking and un-thinking processes behind the garden’s development.
Mark has spent most of his working life in horticulture as a nurseryman, part-time horticulture teacher and as a former Deputy Director of the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens.
Then, on Friday 4 July, we will have two presentations. Firstly, Adrian Dickens will discuss jewellery inspired by fruit and vegetables through the story of American horticulturalist, philanthropist and heiress Rachel Mellon. Adrian is a personal jeweller with 40 years’ experience in modern and bespoke, estate, vintage and antique jewellery.
Also on Friday 4 July, Susannah Fullerton OAM will present 'Vita Sackville-West: Poet, Novelist and Creator of Sissinghurst'. Susannah is an authority on 19th and 20th century literature and will discuss the beauty and legacy of Sissinghurst Castle's famous gardens, of which she is well acquainted.
The final lecture of the series on Friday 8 August will see landscape and nature photographer Ben Wilkinson taking the audience through composition in photography. Ben will share practical tips on balance, leading lines, framing, and perspective to help you elevate your photography.
All lectures are followed by morning tea in the Government House Drawing Room. Parking will be available on site, please drive through the main gates and follow the directions of staff.
