61st Scout Guide Regatta

In the morning at Snug Beach, the Governor of Tasmania, the Honourable Barbara Baker, accompanied by Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers, delivered an address to officially open the 61st Scout Guide Regatta.

As Tasmania’s Chief Scout and Patron of Girl Guides Tasmania, today the Governor was pleased to officially open the 61st Scout and Guide Regatta at Snug Beach.

The Regatta was first held in 1964 and has grown into a longstanding institution that sees Scouts and Guides take part in a series of fun activities on land and in the water.

Speaking to Regatta participants, the Governor encouraged them to get involved with the many different events taking place throughout the weekend, from kayak paddling and dingy sailing to gumboot throwing and sandcastle building.

The Governor also thanked the Scout and Guide State Commissioners and Regatta committees, as well as the leaders, volunteers and families for their dedicated efforts in making the Regatta possible.
