Australian Institute of Architects, Tasmanian Chapter

In the afternoon at Oatlands, the Governor and Professor Chalmers attended the 2025 Open House Southern Midlands hosted by the Australian Institute of Architects, Tasmanian Chapter.

Earlier this year, the Governor attended the launch of Open House Southern Midlands, and today, she was delighted to return to Oatlands for the event.

Open House is a free annual architectural program that opens some of Tasmania’s most unique and interesting buildings to the public, and it took place in the Southern Midlands for the first time over this weekend.

The Governor and Professor Chalmers experienced the historic and the modern, visiting the Cantwell Store, built in 1840 (pictured), before enjoying a guided tour of the contemporary Oatlands Aquatic Centre.

Open House continues in Hobart next weekend, with many buildings, homes, offices, churches, schools, public facilities and architecture practices open to visit on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 November.
