In the afternoon, the Governor and Professor Chalmers hosted the launch of ‘On the Record’, a student-led artwork inspired by the Commissioner for Children and Young People Tasmania and Terrapin’s project, ‘A Mountain of Voices’.
Today, Government House was filled with the voices of young people as the Governor hosted a special event to celebrate the ‘A Mountain of Voices’ project.
During 2025, students from around Tasmania have interacted with the Mountain, a public artwork created by the Commissioner for Children and Young People Tasmania’s consultative council The Voices for Tasmanian Youth in partnership with Terrapin, sharing their views and ideas for decision makers.
These messages were captured in a companion audio artwork, created by artist K Verrell and produced by Terrapin, titled ‘On the Record’, which the Governor was delighted to unveil today.
She thanked all the young people who participated in the project, and noted that, as children and young people are the future of Tasmania, it is vital for all adults to listen to them and act on what they hear.
Following today’s event, ‘On the Record’ will be received by the State Archives of Tasmania and will then tour to libraries around the State.
