Department for Education, Children and Young People | 2025 AFS Youth Assembly

In the afternoon at Government House, the Governor of Tasmania, the Honourable Barbara Baker, and Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers hosted an afternoon tea for members of the Tasmanian delegation who participated in the 2025 AFS Youth Assembly.

Her Excellency was pleased to finish a week of events with a particular focus on young people by hosting an afternoon tea at Government House to acknowledge Tasmanian students who took part in a global youth leadership forum.

Sponsored by the Department for Education, Children and Young People, Year 12 students Harry Watson and Ruby Smith from Hobart College and Ella Bridges-Thompson from Elizabeth College attended the AFS Youth Assembly in New York in August this year.

The Assembly brings together an international network of young people committed to tackling global challenges including sustainability, gender equality and achieving peace in an unstable world.

Harry and Ruby presented the Governor with a report sharing what they learned at the Assembly, which they hope will inspire awareness, dialogue and change.
