Friends of Soldiers Memorial Avenue Inc

In the afternoon on the Queens Domain, the Governor, accompanied by Professor Chalmers, delivered an address and officiated at a rededication and unveiling event for restored plaques hosted by the Friends of Soldiers Memorial Avenue Inc.

On this Remembrance Day, the Governor was pleased to join with the community to unveil restored memorials to fallen soldiers at an important place of commemoration in Hobart.

Earlier this year, nineteen bronze plaques were stolen from Soldiers Memorial Avenue and three more were severely damaged in a thoughtless act of vandalism.

As Patron of Friends of Soldiers Memorial Avenue (FOSMA), the Governor thanked the many organisations and individuals who came together to provide financial and practical support to restore and replace the plaques.

She also commended FOSMA volunteers for their devotion to ensuring the memorial continues to be a place of community memory, where people can come to reflect not only on loss, but on courage and hope.
