In the evening, the Governor and Professor Chalmers hosted a tour of Government House artworks, followed by a reception, for members of the Friends of the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery.
On display in the State Rooms at Government House is a wonderful art collection, including many works on loan from the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG).
The Governor is committed to showcasing the work of contemporary Tasmanian artists and so was delighted that TMAG staff were recently able to rehang the contemporary art display.
This evening, she welcomed members of the Friends of TMAG for a reception and tour of the refreshed display, as well as the other art and decorative art on show at Government House.
The Governor serves as Patron of the Friends of TMAG and, speaking to guests, thanked the group for its support of Tasmania’s arts and cultural heritage.
TMAG’s Head of Art Dr Ash Kerr then led guests on a tour of the contemporary art display, and Senior Curator of Decorative Arts Peter Hughes highlighted Government House’s colonial furniture collection.
