International Women's Day | Rotary Tasmania

In the afternoon at Government House, the Governor of Tasmania, the Honourable Barbara Baker, hosted a luncheon in support of Rotary Tasmania's Gynaecological Cancer Project to mark International Women’s Day.

International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women in our community and an opportunity to highlight and work to address barriers to gender equality.

Today, the Governor was pleased to host a special International Women’s Day fundraising luncheon at Government House to support the Rotary Tasmania Gynaecological Cancer Project, featuring a performance by the Hobart Harmony Chorus.

Speaking to guests, she noted that this year’s International Women’s Day theme calls for equal rights, and equal justice to enforce, exercise and enjoy those rights.

The Governor encourages everyone to think about how they can take action to achieve equality and improve the lives of all women worldwide, for example through fundraising and supporting organisations making a difference and speaking out against discrimination and inequality.
