Melaythenner Teeackana Warrana Aboriginal Corporation

In the morning at Noonameena, University of Tasmania, Newnham, the Governor of Tasmania, the Honourable Barbara Baker, and Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers participated in a yarning circle hosted by the Melaythenner Teeackana Warrana Aboriginal Corporation.

The Governor is proud to serve as Patron of the Mannalargenna Day Festival, a community event held on Tebrakunna Country in Tasmania’s North-East each December, organised by the Melaythenner Teeackana Warrana Aboriginal Corporation (MTWAC).

Today, she was delighted to catch up with MTWAC at Noonameena, the corporation’s headquarters in Launceston.

The Governor and Professor Chalmers were welcomed by Elders with a Smoking Ceremony in the garden, before taking part in a yarning circle with Elders, MTWAC staff and community members.

They then enjoyed a relaxed lunch, before finding out about MTWAC’s programs and projects, including its Ranger programs and the Youth Hub pilot project.
