Navy Headquarters Tasmania

In the afternoon, the Governor and Professor Chalmers hosted an afternoon tea with representatives of Navy Headquarters Tasmania.

In her ceremonial role, the Governor regularly visits members of Australia’s Armed Forces based in Tasmania and also enjoys welcoming personnel to Government House.

Her Excellency was pleased to receive Royal Australian Navy representatives from Navy Headquarters Tasmania, including new Commanding Officer Commander Deb Butterworth AM, CSM and Bar, for afternoon tea.

During the visit, Commander Butterworth and Chief Petty Officer Scott Clear presented the Governor with a print of ‘Panoramic View of Hobarton’, c. 1829-30, which also hangs at Navy Headquarters Tasmania.

The illustration features in Augustus Prinsep’s ‘Journal of a Voyage from Calcutta to Van Diemen’s Land’ (1833), edited by his wife Elizabeth, and shows a view of Hobart including the Barracks as well as the old Government House.
