Remembrance Day 2025

In the morning at the Hobart Cenotaph, the Governor of Tasmania, the Honourable Barbara Baker, accompanied by Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers, delivered an address and laid a wreath at the wreath laying ceremony to mark Remembrance Day.

Today, more than a century after the guns fell silent on the Western Front, the Governor led Tasmanians in commemorations for Remembrance Day.

Addressing this morning’s service at the Hobart Cenotaph, she commemorated the personal sacrifices of more than 60,000 Australians who lost their lives in World War I and remembered the many hundreds of thousands more who have served, and continue to serve, in wars, peacekeeping missions and humanitarian operations since.

The Governor reflected on the service of her own parents during World War II and noted that everyone had their own personal stories of service and sacrifice to remember.

She encouraged Tasmanians to remember all who have served, those who did not return, and those who returned forever changed.

At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.

Lest we forget.
