In the morning at Government House, the Governor of Tasmania, the Honourable Barbara Baker, received Ms Kath Wilson, Board Chair, and Ms Kristy Grierson, Executive Officer, of School Food Matters.

One of the Governor’s initiatives at Government House is the Community Garden, which provides fresh produce for community organisations including School Food Matters’ School Lunch Program.

As Patron of School Food Matters, Her Excellency was delighted to receive an update on current projects.

The Governor learned about the success of the School Lunch Program, which sees the organisation work with Loaves and Fishes to deliver hot meals to children at 45 schools around Tasmania, with plans to expand to 60 schools in 2026.

She was also pleased to hear about initiatives such as the SmartFood food service accreditation program and the Foodies Program which engages students in their own local food systems communities.

The group also took advantage of the sunny late winter weather to check on the Community Garden’s current crops.
