South African Rainbow Nation Association of Tasmania Inc

In the evening, the Governor and Professor Chalmers hosted a reception for members of the South African Rainbow Nation Association of Tasmania to mark South African Freedom Day.

In her community engagement role, the Governor is always pleased to join with Tasmanians from all cultures and backgrounds to celebrate their significant occasions.

This evening, she hosted a reception at Government House with members and guests of the South African Rainbow Nation Association of Tasmania to mark South African Freedom Day.

South Africa observes and commemorates Freedom Day on 27 April each year, marking the anniversary of the day in 1994 when all South Africans, regardless of race, freely participated in elections for the first time.

Speaking to guests, the Governor acknowledged Tasmania’s South African community and the work of the association to care for its members, build friendships and help make Tasmania a more welcoming place to live.
