Tasmania Fire Service

In the morning at the Penguin Surf Lifesaving Club, the Governor of Tasmania, the Honourable Barbara Baker, accompanied by Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers, presented recipients with National Medals at a ceremony hosted by the North-West Region of the Tasmania Fire Service.

Her Excellency was pleased to attend the North West Region’s National Medal Presentation, where she presented National Medals, as well as Long Service Medals and certificates, to TFS and SES members from brigades and units across the region.

The National Medal was established in 1975 as one of the first three elements of the Australian Honours System and recognises 15 years diligent service.

It is awarded to those who risk their lives or safety to protect or assist the community in enforcement of the law or in times of emergency or natural disaster.
