Tasmanian Youth Orchestras

In the evening at the Federation Concert Hall, the Governor of Tasmania, the Honourable Barbara Baker, and Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers, attended the performance of the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra’s 60th Anniversary Gala concert.

The Governor always enjoys celebrating special events and milestone occasions with her Patronage organisations, including Tasmanian Youth Orchestras (TYO).

She and Professor Chalmers were delighted to attend the TYO’s 60th Anniversary Gala Concert at the Federation Concert Hall in Hobart.

They enjoyed performances from the Tasmanian Youth Orchestra, the TYO Tasmanian Youth Chorale and TYO Alumni, performing works by composers including Giuseppe Verdi and Antonin Dvořák.

The concert featured the world premiere of Maria Grenfell’s ‘Our Town’, a piece commissioned by TYO to celebrate the 60th anniversary, as well as performances of ‘The Mountain’ and ‘Forest of Dreams’ from Paul Jarman’s ‘The Mountain Cycle’, with orchestrations commissioned by TYO.
