The Royal Society of Tasmania, Northern Branch

In the afternoon at the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, Inveresk, the Governor, accompanied by Professor Chalmers, delivered an address as guest speaker at a meeting of the Royal Society of Tasmania, Northern Branch.

The Governor serves as Patron of The Royal Society of Tasmania and enjoys joining with members around the State in support of the Society’s mission to advance knowledge.

Today she was in Launceston, where she delivered the RST Northern Branch’s first public lecture for the year at the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery in Inveresk.

The Governor discussed her role, including its important ceremonial, constitutional and community engagement aspects, and also answered questions from the audience.

Following the lecture, she was presented with the book ‘The Story of Launceston’s Government Cottage’ by author Lynette Ross, detailing the history of vice-regal residences in the north of the State.

The Governor then enjoyed afternoon tea with attendees and cut a cake bearing an image of Government Cottage, which was demolished in 1885.
