On Friday 24 October 2025 Her Excellency the Honourable Barbara Baker AC, Governor of Tasmania, was pleased to make an official visit to Circular Head.
Joined by her husband, Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers AO, Her Excellency visited several local attractions and facilities and met many members of the community.
“Travelling around our State and meeting our local communities on municipal visits is one of my favourite parts of my role,” Her Excellency said.
“We enjoyed our day in Circular Head, finding out about local history and industry, visiting schools and community organisations and meeting so many people who care for their fellow residents.”
Her Excellency’s visit began at the Duck River Pavilions in Smithton, where she enjoyed the interesting and informative displays at the Circular Head Heritage Centre.
She then visited the nearby Duck River Meadows Dairy, where she toured the Robotic Dairy and found out all about the rich history of dairy farming in the Circular Head region.
At the Circular Head Trade Training Centre, Her Excellency met with staff and students from schools across the municipality, before visiting Giggles Early Learning Centre, where she was delighted to engage with some even younger Circular Head residents.
Her Excellency and Professor Chalmers then headed to Wyndarra, where they toured the new facilities, found out about the community services and programs offered, and enjoyed lunch.
They then headed to Emmerton Park in Smithton to meet with residents over afternoon tea and tour the new units, before making their way to Stanley.
The day’s final stop was a civic reception at the Stanley Town Hall, attended by local residents and emergency services volunteers, finishing up a busy and interesting day in the region.
“I would like to thank everyone who gave us such a warm welcome to Circular Head,” Her Excellency said.
“It was a pleasure to breathe the cleanest air in the world, and to spend the day learning about the rich history of the far North West corner of our State.
“As Governor one of my areas of focus is education and youth engagement, and so I was delighted to spend some time with young Tasmanians and their educators at the Circular Head Trade Training Centre and Giggles Early Learning Centre.
“Throughout our visit I enjoyed meeting so many people who are caring for others and working to further enrich their close-knit community, and I thank Mayor Gerard Blizzard and the Circular Head Council for their hospitality in hosting us.”
