2025 Australian of the Year, Mr Neale Daniher AO

In the morning, the Governor was delighted to welcome the 2025 Australian of the Year, Mr Neale Daniher AO, to Government House.

Mr Daniher is visiting Hobart as part of the ‘Tour of Honour’, which celebrates Australian of the Year nominees and recipients.

He was named as Australian of the Year in January, in recognition of his relentless drive to raise awareness of and fund vital research into motor neurone disease (MND) through the charity he co-founded, Fight MND.

Diagnosed with MND in 2013, Mr Daniher continues to use his profile and leadership as Australian of the Year to advocate for awareness and funding toward a cure.

The Governor and Professor Chalmers were pleased to meet with him and his daughter Bec, and to hear more about the important work of FightMND.
