In the evening at Government House, the Governor and Professor Chalmers hosted a reception to mark the 66th Australian National Square Dance Convention.
In her community engagement role, the Governor regularly hosts receptions at Government House to welcome visitors to Tasmania who are in the State to attend major national conferences and events.
This evening she was pleased to welcome attendees from the 66th Australian National Square Dance Convention, which took place in Hobart over the past weekend and attracted almost 500 local, interstate and overseas participants.
Speaking to guests, the Governor noted Tasmania’s long-held love of square dancing, being home to Australia’s oldest continuously run club, the Launceston Square Dance Club.
The Governor also acknowledged that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the first Australian National Square Dance Convention to be held in Tasmania, which took place in Hobart in 1976.
Guests also showed off their dancing skills during the evening, enjoying a square dance in the Government House ballroom as the Governor and Professor Chalmers watched on.
