In the evening at Government House, the Governor of Tasmania, the Honourable Barbara Baker, and Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers hosted a reception to mark the 30th anniversary of the Cancer Council Tasmania.
As Patron of Cancer Council Tasmania, the Governor was pleased to host a reception at Government House to celebrate the organisation’s 30th anniversary.
Cancer Council Tasmania provides services to support Tasmanians with cancer, such as Transport2Treatment which provides nearly 600 trips per month across the State, as well as cancer prevention programs and research funding.
Speaking to guests, the Governor highlighted the importance of educating the community about cancer, with strong early detection and screening programs and modifying lifestyle behaviours playing a key role in prevention.
She acknowledged Cancer Council Tasmania’s dedicated staff and volunteers and thanked everyone who supports the organisation’s fundraising efforts.
