Embassy of the Republic of Poland

In the afternoon at Government House, the Governor of Tasmania, the Honourable Barbara Baker, and Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers received the Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of Poland, Mr Marcin Kawalowski, together with the Honorary Consul for Poland in Tasmania, Mr Ed Kremzer.

As an important part of her ceremonial role, the Governor regularly receives calls from Ambassadors, High Commissioners and other diplomatic officials who are visiting Tasmania.

Her Excellency and Professor Chalmers were pleased to welcome Mr Marcin Kawałowski, Chargé d’Affaires for the Republic of Poland, and Honorary Consul of Poland in Tasmania, Mr Ed Kremzer, to Government House.

Mr Kawałowski is in Hobart for the Battle of Britain commemorations taking place over the coming weekend, marking 85 years since the World War II air battle.

A total of 145 Polish airmen served in the Royal Air Force during the Battle of Britain, which took place from July to September 1940 – the largest number of non-British personnel.

At the last Census, more than 4,100 Tasmanians identified as having Polish ancestry.
