Homelessness Week 2025

Later, the Governor and Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers received representatives of the Hobart City Mission, Salvation Army Tasmania, and Kingborough Helping Hands to receive food donations to mark Homelessness Week 2025.

In her community engagement role, the Governor is committed to supporting organisations providing services to Tasmanians in need.

This week is Homelessness Week, an annual event raising awareness of the impact of homelessness and the solutions needed to end homelessness in our community.

As one practical way of helping those in need, Government House regularly provides donations of meals and produce to Tasmanian community organisations.

During Homelessness Week, Government House kitchen staff have produced 650 ready to eat meals for these organisations to provide to Tasmanians experiencing homelessness and others who are in need.

Meals include fish mornay, tuna and vegetable stew, chilli con carne, fried rice, pesto penne pasta, orange and chocolate jaffa cake, bread and butter pudding and fruit crumbles.

Along with using produce from the Government House gardens, staff were also grateful to receive donations of seafood, dry goods, cheese and other supplies from businesses including Ashmore Seafoods, Southern Foods and Passione Foods to help create the meals.

Today the Governor was pleased to meet with representatives from the Hobart City Mission, Kingborough Helping Hands and The Salvation Army Tasmania as they collected the meal donations at Government House.
