Honorary Consulate for the Republic of Latvia in Tasmania

In the afternoon at the Henry Jones Art Hotel, the Governor of Tasmania, the Honourable Barbara Baker, accompanied by Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers, delivered an address at a reception to mark the appointment of the Honorary Consul for the Republic of Latvia in Tasmania.

In her ceremonial role, the Governor regularly receives diplomatic representatives at Government House and attends events with Tasmania’s Consular Corps in our community.

Today she was pleased to attend an event in Hobart to mark the opening of the Honorary Consulate for the Republic of Latvia in Tasmania.

Addressing the event, the Governor said the new Honorary Consulate would not only strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between Tasmania and the Baltic nation but also provide a valuable forum through which shared interests and ideas can be exchanged.

Welcoming inaugural Honorary Consul Martin Bicevskis, she said she looked forward to seeing the relationship between Tasmania and Latvia continue to grow.
