In the morning at the Royal Hobart Hospital, and later at the Roy Fagan Centre, Lenah Valley, the Governor of Tasmania, the Honourable Barbara Baker, and Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers met with Inscape Tasmania artists delivering art and music programs within the Tasmanian Health Service.
The Governor always enjoys meeting Tasmanians who are working to improve the lives of others in our community, and so today she was delighted to visit local healthcare facilities to see Inscape Tasmania’s programs in action.
At the Royal Hobart Hospital and the Roy Fagan Centre, she met artists and patients as they took part in the organisation’s bedside musical visits and artmaking experiences.
Inscape Tasmania supports professional artists and musicians to create meaningful, uplifting experiences for patients, families and staff through a range of programs.
This includes the Lifescape art program, where an artist listens to a patient’s stories and creates an illustration that captures their treasured experiences and memories.
The artwork is then gifted to the patient and displayed bedside so that family and healthcare staff can learn about the person's rich life.
Over morning tea at the RHH, the Governor was honoured to be presented with her own Lifescape artwork, created by artist Claire Pendrigh based on her responses to questions about her time as Governor.
In addition to bedside visits, Inscape Tasmania also facilitates musical performances, artwork displays, projects and residencies in various healthcare settings. Visit inscape.org.au for more information about the organisation’s work.
