Multicultural Council of Tasmania

In the evening, the Governor and Professor Chalmers hosted a reception for members of the Multicultural Council of Tasmania to mark Harmony Week.

Next week is Harmony Week, a national celebration that recognises Australia’s diversity and brings together people from different backgrounds at events right across the country.

This evening, the Governor was delighted to welcome members of the Multicultural Council of Tasmania (MCOT) to Government House for a reception to mark the occasion.

Speaking to guests, she highlighted Tasmania’s rich history of migration and noted that, according to the last Census, one in five Tasmanians was born overseas.

The Governor welcomed new MCOT CEO Bruno Ferreira and commended the organisation on its work to create a cultural and linguistically diverse and harmonious Tasmania that is just, fair and inclusive.
