Nepali Society of Tasmania

In the afternoon at Montrose Foreshore Community Park, the Governor of Tasmania, the Honourable Barbara Baker, accompanied by Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers, delivered an address at the Nepalese New Year 2083 Festival hosted by the Nepali Society of Tasmania.

One of the Governor’s favourite parts of her role is visiting communities across our State, meeting Tasmanians of all ages and joining in with their celebrations.

Today, she and Professor Chalmers were delighted to join with the Nepali Society of Tasmania for the Nepalese New Year 2083 Festival at Montrose.

The celebration provided an opportunity for Tasmanians to engage with and appreciate the rich cultural heritage of Nepal and to recognise the contributions of Tasmania’s Nepalese community.

The Governor wished attendees a Happy New Year, saying she hoped it may bring a renewed sense of belonging, deeper connections and continued cultural sharing across our community.
