In the afternoon at Government House, the Governor and Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers hosted an afternoon tea for the Parliament of Tasmania together with a visiting delegation of Members of the Parliament of Samoa.
Today, the Governor was pleased to welcome a delegation of Members of the Parliament of Samoa to Government House for afternoon tea.
The Tasmanian Parliament has a longstanding twinning partnership with the Legislative Assembly of Samoa, which provides opportunities to exchange ideas and share knowledge about parliamentary practice and governance.
As such, a delegation from Samoa is in Tasmania this week, touring Parliament House and observing proceedings in the House of Assembly and Legislative Council, and meeting with parliamentary staff and presiding officers.
Speaking to guests, the Governor said the delegation’s visit reflected the strong and enduring relationships that exist across the Commonwealth and would be a valuable opportunity to exchange perspectives and to strengthen bonds between Tasmania and Samoa.
Professor Chalmers then escorted the Samoan MPs on a tour of the Government House State Rooms and gardens.
