In the afternoon, the Governor and Professor Chalmers received Mr Chen Guoquan, Deputy Director-General, Foreign Affairs Office of the Fujian Provincial People’s Government, together with a delegation of representatives from Fujian provincial government departments.

In her ceremonial role, the Governor regularly receives calls from diplomatic representatives and government officials from around the world at Government House.

Her Excellency was pleased to welcome a delegation from China’s Fujian Province, led by Mr Chen Guoquan, Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Fujian Provincial People’s Government.

Tasmania has had a sister state relationship with Fujian Province since 1981, making this relationship one of Australia’s oldest with China.

Mr Chen and the delegation were in the State to meet with government representatives, as Tasmania and Fujian Province look forward to celebrating the 45th anniversary of the sister state relationship in 2026.
