In her community engagement role, the Governor regularly attends celebrations and hosts events at Government House marking significant occasions for our diverse Tasmanian community.

This evening, she was pleased to host the members of the Punjabi Society Tasmania for a reception to mark the Lohri festival and also celebrate the society’s second anniversary.

Traditionally observed in January, Lohri is a harvest festival marked by lighting a bonfire, sharing songs and dances and gathering family and friends.

Speaking to guests, the Governor commended the Society on becoming a focal point for cultural celebration, community support and engagement with Tasmanians, and wished it well as it continues to grow in the years ahead.
