In the evening, the Governor and Professor Chalmers hosted a reception for members of the Royal Commonwealth Society, Tasmania Branch, and other Loyal Societies to mark Commonwealth Day.

Commonwealth Day is observed on the second Monday in March each year, with events and activities taking place in Commonwealth nations across the globe.

This evening the Governor hosted members of the Royal Commonwealth Society’s Tasmanian Branch, of which she is Patron, for a reception to mark the day.

Guests were entertained by pipers from the Derwent Scottish Pipe Band as they entered Government House.

Speaking at the event, the Governor highlighted this year’s theme ‘Unlocking opportunities together for a prosperous Commonwealth’ and read out His Majesty King Charles III’s Commonwealth Day message.
