Southern Ocean Subsea

In the morning at Huntingfield, the Governor of Tasmania, the Honourable Barbara Baker, and Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers met with staff and undertook a tour of the operations of Southern Ocean Subsea Pty Ltd.

In her community engagement role, the Governor supports Tasmanian business and regularly visits companies around the State to meet with staff and hear about their innovative operations.

Today she was pleased to visit the Kingston workshop of Southern Ocean Subsea (SoSub), a company which creates solutions for underwater tasks across a variety of industries including the aquaculture and marine science sectors.

During the visit, the Governor learned about SoSub’s technical innovation, including its award-winning APAMA Net Repair System, a remotely operated vehicle which repairs aquaculture nets underwater.

The Governor also toured the manufacturing floor and saw new equipment, including a 6-axis CNC lathe, which will help the company continue to provide its Australian-made technologies to clients around the world.
