In the morning at Swansea Fire Station, the Governor of Tasmania, the Honourable Barbara Baker, and Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers attended a morning tea hosted by the Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) to meet with TFS and Tasmania State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers who supported the fire incident and ongoing fire management efforts at Dolphin Sands in December 2025.
In her community engagement role, the Governor is proud to convey, on behalf of all Tasmanians, recognition and gratitude to those working to serve our community and keep us safe.
Today, she was pleased to visit Swansea to meet with those involved in the response to last December’s devastating bushfire at Dolphin Sands.
The fire was the most destructive in Tasmania since the 2013 Dunalley bushfires, destroying and damaging homes and assets including sheds, water tanks and electrical poles.
Volunteers from the Tasmania Fire Service and Tasmania SES who took part in the fire response gathered at the Swansea Fire Station for a special thank you morning tea.
The Governor thanked them for their work fighting the fire under challenging conditions and undertaking important jobs including doorknocking, clearing debris, conducting welfare checks, providing food and supporting recovery efforts.
