Toast for Kids Charity Inc

In the morning at ‘Home Hill’, Devonport, the Governor of Tasmania, the Honourable Barbara Baker, and Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers attended an event hosted by Toast for Kids Charity Inc to launch ‘Read Aloud to Your Child Every Day’.

The Governor and Professor Chalmers serve as Joint Patrons of Toast for Kids Charity Inc. and were today pleased to join with the Tasmanian organisation in Devonport to launch a nationwide children’s literacy initiative.

‘Read Aloud to Your Child Every Day’ week, which runs until Sunday, aims to create a culture that prioritises reading aloud to children every day, to help promote early literacy, strengthen family bonds, and foster a lifelong love of reading.

Speaking at the launch, the Governor highlighted the many benefits of reading aloud to children and encouraged everyone to take some time every day this week to read aloud to the babies and young children in their lives.

The Governor and Professor Chalmers then joined guests on the lawns at Home Hill to read from the book ‘Tassie Rhymes for Little Tigers’ by Narelda Joy, which Toast for Kids distributes to families around the State.
