University of Tasmania | Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS)

In the evening at Government House, the Governor and Professor Chalmers hosted a reception for the University of Tasmania to mark the 20th anniversary of Australia’s Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS).

In her community engagement role, the Governor highlights important Tasmanian scientific achievements, such as the State’s long-standing role as one of Australia’s centres of excellence in marine and Antarctic science.

This evening, she was delighted to host a reception at Government House to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Australia’s Integrated Marine Observing System - IMOS.

IMOS has been deploying observing equipment throughout Australia’s coastal and open oceans since 2006, gathering data that helps us understand how our seas are changing.

It is operated by a consortium of institutions, with the University of Tasmania serving as the lead agent and host of the IMOS head office.

Speaking to guests, the Governor thanked all those involved in building and sustaining IMOS for their dedication over the past two decades, and wished everyone continued success in advancing our understanding of the oceans.
