Government House Family Day

Government House

Join Her Excellency the Honourable Barbara Baker AC, Governor of Tasmania, in the Government House Gardens for a day of family-friendly activities and entertainment during the Royal Hobart Regatta long weekend.

Stop by for a picnic on Sunday 8 February as you enjoy Regatta celebrations, which now expand from the Regatta Grounds and onto the Queens Domain with activities at the Hobart Aquatic Centre.

As Patron of the Regatta, Her Excellency is pleased that Regatta visitors will be able to enjoy more family fun on the Domain, which has been home to Regatta celebrations since Lieutenant-Governor Sir John Franklin presided over the first event in 1838.

Several of Her Excellency’s Patronage organisations will be taking part in this Family Day, including Girl Guides Tasmania, Scouts Tasmania, Cricket Tasmania, the Tasmania JackJumpers and the Country Women’s Association (CWA) in Tasmania.

Visitors will be able to take part in a range of activities, including free facepainting, trying their hand at croquet with Croquet Tasmania and meeting Tasmania Devils mascot Rum’un.

The Rotary Club of Howrah will be firing up the barbecue, crafts and baked goods will be for sale at the CWA stall, and visitors will enjoy a variety of live entertainment including the Tasmania Police Pipe Band.

This initiative is part of Her Excellency’s important community engagement role, making Government House and its gardens more accessible to the public.

Entry is free and all are welcome. Gates will be open from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.

Visitors are welcome to bring their own food and drink, however in keeping with the family nature of the event alcohol is not permitted. Some seating will be available, but visitors are encouraged to bring rugs and camping chairs.

Unfortunately, pets are unable to attend, however service animals are welcome.

Parking will not be available in the Government House grounds but limited provisions can be made to allow access for people with disability. Please call 6234 2611 in advance to arrange access.
