Tasmanian Refugee Legal Service

In the morning in Hobart, the Governor of Tasmania, the Honourable Barbara Baker, and Emeritus Professor Don Chalmers met with legal staff and volunteers who support the Tasmanian Refugee Legal Service.

As Patron of the Tasmanian Refugee Legal Service (TRLS), the Governor was pleased to visit the not-for-profit organisation’s Hobart office to meet with staff.

TRLS provides migration-related legal services to refugees, migrants, asylum seekers and other humanitarian entrants in the Tasmanian community.

Due to their circumstances, these clients may otherwise be unable to access legal assistance that is free, or available in Tasmania.

Operating since 2013, TRLS is the only dedicated refugee, migrant, asylum seeker and humanitarian entrant legal service in Tasmania.

The Governor and Professor Chalmers spent time with the TRLS team, finding out about the organisation’s work and the challenges faced by the refugee community.
