In the afternoon at Government House, the Governor of Tasmania, the Honourable Barbara Baker, presided at a Special Meeting of the Executive Council.

Later, the Governor and Professor Chalmers received the Acting Premier of Tasmania, the Honourable Jeremy Rockliff, and the Consul-General of Japan in Melbourne, Mr Junji Shimada.

In the evening at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, Sandy Bay, the Governor and Professor Chalmers attended the Midwinter Dinner hosted by the Royal Society of Tasmania.
